What does dust control work actually involve?
Dust control is the combination of equipment-mounted extraction, HEPA filtration, and physical containment that keeps concrete work from putting silica into a building that stays open. It is a system rather than a single product, and it gets planned before mobilization rather than improvised on site.
On grinding, a HEPA vacuum attaches at the tool head, so it captures material at the point of cut. On shot blasting, the machine recovers and recycles steel shot in a closed loop with integrated vacuum, so very little escapes in the first place. Over both, crews build poly containment and run negative air where the building requires it.
Why silica control is not optional
Respirable crystalline silica from concrete work is regulated under the OSHA standard for construction, 29 CFR 1926.1153, which sets exposure limits and requires specified control methods. AWSP supervisors also carry OSHA construction safety training. Reference: OSHA respirable crystalline silica.

Is concrete dust really that dangerous?
Yes. Grinding concrete releases respirable crystalline silica, which OSHA regulates because it causes lung disease. It also fouls equipment and finished spaces. We capture it at the source.
Can you grind while our building is occupied?
Yes. That is most of our work. We contain the area and run HEPA-managed source capture so dust does not reach tenants or production.
