Where a warehouse slab actually fails
Spalling joint edges
Forklift wheels hit an unsupported joint edge thousands of times a day. Without filler to carry that load the concrete chips away and the gap widens.
Debris and hygiene
Open joints collect dirt, water and product. In food and pharmaceutical environments that is a compliance problem as much as a housekeeping one.
Rough ride and equipment wear
Every open joint is an impact for the forklift and its load. Filled joints give a smoother run, which shows up in equipment maintenance over time.
Control joints and expansion joints are not the same
Treating them the same is a common and expensive mistake. They do different jobs in the slab and take different materials.
Control and saw-cut joints
These are cut to control where the slab cracks as it cures. Once the slab has done most of its shrinking they take a semi-rigid filler that supports the edge under wheel traffic.
Expansion joints
These are designed to move. They need a flexible material that can accommodate that movement, not a rigid filler that will simply tear or push out.

We walk the slab, check its condition, test for moisture where it matters, and give you a clear scope with no vague line items.
Clean and prepare
Joints are cut clean and cleared of old filler, debris and contamination so the new material bonds to sound concrete on both faces.
Repair and fill
Spalled edges are repaired where needed, then the correct material for that joint type is installed full depth.
Shave flush
Filler is shaved flush with the slab so the joint carries wheel loads across its full width.

Why do our joint edges keep chipping?
Almost always because the joints are unfilled or filled with the wrong material. Nothing supports the edge, so hard wheels break the concrete away.
Can you repair joints that are already damaged?
Yes. Spalled edges are rebuilt before filling, otherwise the new filler has nothing sound to bond to.
Can this be done while we operate?
Usually yes. Joint work is phased aisle by aisle so the facility keeps running around it.
Is one filler right for every joint?
No. Control joints take a semi-rigid filler that supports the edge. Expansion joints move and need a flexible material instead.
